Description

Digital discussion platforms can make it easier to ensure that every student contributes to the conversation, and they can also be used for class polls, collection of group feedback, and facilitating structured mini-debates.

Let us know of any other great platforms you've discovered, and we'll add them here.

Tricider

Tricider is a free tool that allows users to generate ideas, create polls, and engage in discussions, and the anonymous voting feature can be useful. It’s worth creating a login so you don’t lose access to the questions you’ve created.

Mentimeter

Mentimeter has a FREE licence option that offers interactive polling, quizzes, and brainstorming tools.

It has a real-time feedback feature which helps teachers to gauge student understanding and adjust their teaching accordingly.

Great for polls, collaboration and discussion.

Padlet

Padlet is a platform for creating interactive ‘boards’ for sharing ideas, images, videos, and documents in a visually engaging format. Allows responses and comments.

3 boards can be created on the free plan.

Popplet

Popplet is a visual collaboration tool where students can create mind maps and diagrams to organise ideas, thoughts, and projects in a more structured format. Offers real-time collaboration, image and video integration, and customisable layouts.

It’s free to create 1 Popplet.

Kialo

Kialo is a more structured debate platform that students can use to present arguments and discuss various topics in a visual format. It offers educators a space to introduce the discussion and provide background, and also includes nested responses and peer voting.

Free to create your own discussions (includes access to a suite of public discussion templates as well).

Flip (for Microsoft Teams)

If your students use Microsoft Teams then you have access to Flip – an interactive clip creation platform that enables students to share their own videos and respond to each others’ contributions. Includes polls, discussions, and the ability to gather feedback in real time.

Loom (great for Google Classroom)

Loom offers pretty straightforward video messaging which can be used easily in Google Classroom. Educators and students create their own clips and share links for others to be able to view and respond to their work.
