Geza Vermes, Emeritus Professor of Jewish Studies at Oxford University, who died last week was a noted authority on the Dead Sea Scrolls and other ancient works in Aramaic, and on the life and religion of Jesus. He was one of the most important voices in contemporary Jesus research, and he has been described as the greatest Jesus scholar of his time.

Professor Vermes was interviewed by John Dickson in 2006 as part of the documentary series, The Christ Files. They briefly discussed Judaism in the first century, the Old Testament background to Jesus' teaching, and the Jewish historian Josephus.
