We’re finally ready to admit it: we’re in a toxic relationship with our phones.
For all their upsides – memes, convenience, connection – they exact a heavy price: distraction, doomscrolling, anxiety, loneliness.
How do we enjoy the advantages of our digital ecology while minimising its costs? Who am I without a screen in front of my face?
Join us for drinks, nibbles, awkward human encounters in real life, and stimulating conversation about how to get our digital habits back on track.

Meet the Speakers
Simon Smart
Simon is CPX’s Executive Director and a former English and history teacher who’s spent nearly two decades asking Australians about life’s biggest questions on the Life & Faith podcast and in mainstream media. You’re likely to find him unplugged, surfing Sydney’s Northern Beaches – which might just make him the most qualified person in the room to talk about breaking up with your screen.
Justine Toh
Justine is a Senior Research Fellow at CPX with a PhD in Cultural Studies and a former life as a journalist at Fairfax and Reuters, which means she’s spent equal time inside the media machine and picking apart what it does to us. Come for the phone talk, stay for the mild identity crisis.
