If you’re a Christian of various kinds, you might feel inclined to explore God’s world. You think, well, this world, God made it and so on – so what is this world like? How does God’s world really look, and how does it speak of God? You might very well think these things and if you did, then you might want to be a serious scientist. I mean, science grew up in the bosom of the Christian church. The early important scientists were all either Christians or at least believers in God – like Newton wasn’t exactly a Christian but he was a believer in God. And furthermore, the fact that the world is sort of accessible to science, that seems to me to fit in much better with Christian belief than with, say, naturalism.
