Well, in the end, the difference that image-of-God language makes is that it begins to seep out into culture and to have a kind of democratic impulse to it through history. Of course, it takes a long time to seep out completely. But at the end of the day, if you think about the debate in Europe between the divine right of kings idea and the idea that everyone should have a stake and a say, really that whole debate only happens because of this kind of idea about image-bearing.
