Trap #3 - The Impact On Others

Our choices and freedoms are not exercised in isolation – and a selfish use of personal freedom can unintentionally limit or harm others. This clip considers how the Biblical vision of freedom is relational and rooted in love, rather than self-interest.

(Trap 3 of 5 from The Freedom Trap with Max Jeganathan)

Discussion Questions:
  1. In what ways should our freedom be limited for the good of others?
  2. Give some real-life examples of people using their freedom without thinking about how it affects others.
  3. Who has been the best example of someone sacrificing their own freedom for your good that you’ve ever experienced?
  4. How does our culture influence us to focus on personal gain rather than communal responsibility?
  5. Have you ever made a choice that felt right at the time – but you later realised it had hurt or limited someone else?
  6. Who in your world is most impacted by your choices? How easy is it to consider their needs above your own?
  7. Would your friends describe you more as someone who gets what they want, or someone who compromises to keep others happy?
  8. How much freedom is it ok to give up without feeling like someone is taking advantage of us, or being abusive?
  9. What aspects of my personal freedom should I be willing to sacrifice for the collective good?
  10. How much do you think ‘a willingness to compromise’ is a godly character trait?
