Overview
Each clip answers a question about the nature of the Bible, its content and message. These can be used as discussion starters, triggers for further research, invitations to ask related questions, or conversations about the place of the Bible in a life of faith.
Dr Darrell Bock is Executive Director of Cultural Engagement and Senior Research Professor of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. He is the author of over 40 books, including notable commentaries on the biblical books of Luke and Acts, and several works looking at the historical Jesus. He often speaks in the media on topics related to the New Testament and Christianity in contemporary society.
These clips can be explored further through the CPX ‘Big Questions’ unit, which has a series of related learning activities in the “Can We Trust What the Bible Tells Us About Jesus?” lesson.
Learning Activities
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Students will be able to articulate the questions they have about the reliability, credibility and relevance of the Bible.
- Students will be familiar with a Christian understanding of the Bible’s origins, preservation and transmission.
- Students will evaluate Darrell Bock’s responses to common questions about the authority of the Bible.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
- Students can describe a Christian response to common questions about the Bible’s authority.
- Students can identify and express related questions which they may have about the nature of the Bible, its reliability and credibility.
- Students can communicate an understanding of why thoughtful Christians are willing to reverence the Bible as an authoritative text.
